‘Step up’ for the school district
"I am asking you to vote with me in support of Measure V on your March ballot because our schools and our kids are who we are as a community."
Dave Moorman, Agoura Hills.
Our family moved to this area 20 years ago, drawn by the promise of great schools and a community that works together to provide the highest level of opportunity for our kids to excel.
We quickly learned that great schools do not simply happen on their own. It is up to residents to set a high bar and support local schools in order to ensure they have the tools and facilities to meet those expectations, then hold them accountable for results.
Like many people, I am fairly skeptical of the efficiency of government. So when we were asked to approve parcel taxes and bond measures for our schools in the past, I made it my mission to closely examine the system: its funding, its use of public money, and its leadership.
What I learned was that LVUSD was a highly efficient organization that brings a phenomenal level of results to its students and community through excellent teachers, fiscally responsible management and intelligent oversight.
I not only wanted to support this school system, I eventually chose to run for school board so I could help ensure that our community and kids would continue to receive benefits of this high-quality education system into the future.
During my two terms, I helped provide oversight of construction on new and existing schools and our amazing Performing Arts Education Centers, plus the embarkation of digital learning in the classroom, achievements made possible through the support of our local taxpayers.
After a multi-year evaluation of facilities and learning needs, LVUSD is asking us to step up as a community in order to maintain the value of our investment in our schools and as a result our property values.
Measure V on the upcoming March ballot addresses critical needs that will serve students today and into the future. By leveraging limited-term state matching grants, Measure V offers the unique chance to get even more “bang for our buck.”
